What is insanity?

Insanity workout is a series of exercises set at high intensity with a short period of pauses for rest. This program will be done for 60 days together with its own diet plan.

Insanity workout is created by the celebrity fitness coach together with Beachbody. This is said to make you burn 1000 calories per session. Promising to give you your desired body quickly and effectively.

How do you lose fat?

Losing fat happens when you burn more energy than you take in. Thus if you burn energy the same as what you take in you will maintain your weight. Whereas, taking in more energy than what you’re burning will result in weight gain.

You lose fat whenever your body needs extra fuel, it uses your stored fat and draws off triglycerides. These are broken down for your body to use. If this happens frequently, your stored fat or fat cells will shrink. This is because they’re no longer full of triglycerides.

Here’s where you’ll notice that your waistline is getting smaller and your arms are getting thinner. Energy burn and cardiovascular exercises are the most effective way to spend the most effort in a short period of time. You also need to consider some factors that may affect your fat loss, such as your gender, age, starting point/ initial body weight, calorie deficit, sleep, etc.

The role of diet

Diet applies to a big role when you want to lose weight. Remember that in order to lose fat you need to burn more energy than what you take in.

This means you need to make sure that you’re mindful of the calories you’re taking in to get that optimum result. Knowing your daily calorie intake will also make it easier to track how many calories you need to burn in a day.

Insanity workout comes with a diet plan that you need to follow together with the exercises. It’s also for 60 days and there are meals that you need to choose from.

For the first 30 days, you begin with the Elite Nutrition plan. In this plan, you need to select five meals to eat each day. The meals should be breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch, an afternoon snack, and dinner.

There are five meal lists available in the Elite Nutrition plan guide and each list has 10 meals to choose from. Each meal is approximately 300 to 400 calories.

Sample Breakfast

  • Fruit and cottage cheese
  • Bagel and lox
  • Berry protein smoothie
  • Egg white and fruit plate

Sample Mid-Morning Snack

  • Protein omelet
  • Vanilla berry protein shake
  • Yogurt bowl
  • Turkey BLT

Sample Lunch

  • Grilled chicken salad
  • Sushi
  • Shakeology
  • Roast Beef Sandwich

Sample Afternoon Snack

  • Sashimi
  • Insanity special sandwich with nut butter and jelly
  • Tuna salad in a tomato
  • Turkey chili

Sample Dinner

  • Baked cod with steamed carrots and cauliflower
  • Chicken meatballs
  • Steak and broccoli
  • Grilled salmon with asparagus

The second 30 days of your diet plan is the same as the first 30 days but with their Complex Carbohydrate Snacks. This is because your body is burning calories more effectively after your 30 days period and the workout will be increasing in difficulty.

In order for your body to be fueled for the rest of the 60-day program you may or may not increase your calorie intake. To do thaty you can choose to add the Complex Carbohydrate Snacks daily.

The Elite Nutritional Plan includes a list of snacks for you to choose from. If you feel that you still have plenty of energy even with the increased difficulty of the workout, you can opt to not add the Complex Carbohydrate Snacks.

Examples of Complex Carbohydrate Snacks

  • 1 small baked potato with skin
  • ½ cup brown rice, measure after being cooked
  • 1 small orange or banana
  • 1 whole-wheat English muffin
  • ½ cup canned beans

Your fitness plays a role too

Also, insanity workout can be considered as one of those programs that you need to be already fit to do. This is to make sure you’ll be able to go through with the 60-day program without harming yourself.

We highly suggest consulting your doctor before you begin the program and take the fit test included in the set. It’s because most of the workout in the program will keep your heart rate within 80 to 90 percent of your maximal heart rate.

If your heart or body is not fit for the workout, it may cause you more harm than good.

Is insanity good for weight loss?

Based on the intensity of the workout plus the diet plan, we can say that the Insanity workout is programmed to get your desired body after 60 days. You also need to remember the golden rule: You need to burn more calories than you take in.

Let’s say your body is fit enough to do the program, you need to also follow the diet plan that comes with it. For the whole 60 days, you’ll go through the intense workout sessions plus consume the meals suggested in the meal plan.

With this equation, you are burning more calories than you are taking in. This makes this program good for weight loss.

See you at the next session!
